Men's Volleyball Splits in Final Day of Springfield Invitational

Springfield, Mass. (3/24/12) – The Kean University men’s volleyball team split in their final day of action at the Springfield College Invitational by defeating Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-1 and falling to #4 Juniata College, 3-0, Saturday afternoon.

In the first matchup of the day, the Cougars defeated Wentworth by the set scores of 26-24, 25-15, 16-25, 25-23.  Junior Steve Vahalla led the way with 18 kills (.400 attack percentage) and nine digs while teammate Ed Jedziniak added eight kills (.438 attack percentage) and four digs.  Senior Christian Portera recorded 12 kills (.474) while rookie Alex Barnhard tallied 47 assists.

In the second match of the day, Kean (19-7) fell in straight sets by the set scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-22.  Vahalla (pictured left) provided 10 kills while Portera added eight.

The Cougars return to Skyline Conference action on Thursday when they travel to face Ramapo College.
