Vahalla Named Capital One Academic All-District

UNION, N.J. (5/22/12) – After a very successful season on the court, junior Steve Vahalla has also earned recognition for his efforts in the classroom after being named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 At-Large Division III Squad, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. 

The outside hitter became the program's first All-American, as he was named a American Volleyball Coaches Association second-team All-American after leading the Kean University men's volleyball team to the program's first Skyline Conference title and a berth in the inaugural NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championships. 

Vahalla was also named the Skyline Conference Player of the Year and was tabbed the Most Valuable Player during the Skyline Conference tournament. 

He closed out the season ranked 10th in the country in kills per set (3.69) and ranked 15th in hitting percentage (.334). 

A communication studies major, Vahalla was inducted in Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, this past April.
