SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (2/3/17) – The top-ranked Springfield College men's volleyball team was able to top the No. 8 Kean University squad in the first match of the annual Hall of Fame Classic on Friday night. The Cougars kept things close through much of the night despite missing All-American outside hitter Jacob Kauffman from their lineup.
Shayron Taylor hit .333 in the match for the Cougars and was a part of Kean's only two blocks (including one solo). Freshmen Steven Zarzycki and Dylan Flor admirably shouldered much of the load on the outside, leading Kean with six and five kills, respectively.
Springfield hit .362 in the match and was led by All-American Luis Vega, who had 17 kills on 23 swings for a .652 average. Luis Garcia Rubio handed out 29 assists.
The Pride improved to 7-1 on the season and are undefeated against Division III opponents. Kean is now 7-3 on the year.
The Cougars will continue their stretch of three-straight matches tangling with Top-10 teams and take on New York University on the second day of the Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Springfield.
