Union, N.J. (3/22/17) – David Lehman led all players with 13 kills as the third ranked Stevens Institute of Technology men's volleyball team defeated Kean University, 3-1, in non-conference action.
Lehman added seven digs and four total blocks as the Ducks (21-2) held Kean to .100 hitting on the evening.
Stevens led or was tied for the entire first set as they cruised to a 25-13 win. Set two was much closer as the Ducks needed a 6-0 run to pull away mid-set to gain some breathing room. Leading 10-9, Gabe Shankweiler began serving and recorded three aces in the 6-0 spurt to put Stevens ahead 16-9. The Ducks would go on to win set two, 25-19.
The Cougars didn't go quietly and mounted a rally in the third set, riding the arm of Jacob Kauffman. Down 5-3, Kauffman started an 8-0 run with a kill and proceeded to serve. Jay Bynum collected two blocks in the span. Stevens would tie the score on three occasions in the set (16, 18 and 22), but a kill from Steve Zarzycki and back-to-back aces from Dylan Flor would give Kean set three.
Stevens closed out the match by leading or tying throughout the fourth set to earn the win.
Zarzycki and Flor led Kean with eight kills each. Flor added four aces while teammate Steven Schrank recorded seven digs. Kevin Barrow (pictured left) collected 22 assists on the night.
Kean returns to Skyline play on Sunday when they host Ramapo College and St. Joseph's College-Long Island beginning at noon.
