UNION, N.J. (4/13/17) – The Kean University men's volleyball team topped Saint Joseph's College of Long Island 3-0 in the Semifinals of the Skyline Conference Tournament at home on Thursday.
Early on, Kean's Ian Capp served three aces in a row to pump the Cougar lead up to four midway through the first set.
Despite the close score (25-21), Kean outhit the Golden Eagles .370-.077 in the opener. Nick Buseski had four kills and hit .667 to lead the way for Kean.
The Cougars upped their performance in the second set, hitting at a .579 clip and firing off six aces, including three-straight by Jacob Kauffman bookending a timeout. Kean won going away, 25-13.
The third set was tied as late as 18-18, but a kill by Buseski put Kean in the lead for good. Riding the momentum of the home crowd, the Cougars scored seven of the final nine points to advance to the Championship Match.
Buseski (pictured left) led the team with 14 points, while Capp handed out 32 assists, ripped five aces, led the team with five digs and hit 1.000 on three swings. Kauffman finished with six kills and four aces.
The Cougars will host the Skyline Conference Championship Match on Saturday against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 1 p.m.
It marks the first time in five seasons it will not be the Cougars facing Ramapo College with the Skyline Conference Championship on the line.
