Men's Volleyball Cruises in Season Opening Win

Union, N.J. (1/19/18) – The Kean University men's volleyball cruised to a season opening 3-0 win over the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Friday afternoon in day one of the Kean Winter Classic.

The #11 Cougars were led by Dylan Flor and Jared Warner who each had eight kills in the win.

Kean had 11 players in on the action as the team hit .461% to start the young season.

It was a see-saw affair in the early going before Kean used two short spurts to pull ahead by six (20-14).  Brandon Lee pushed the advantage even further with two straight aces for a 22-14 lead and a Dolphin timeout.  Three straight kills from Warner ended the set, 25-17.

The Cougars picked up an early advantage in the second set and widened the gap to a seven point edge behind the serving of Nick Buseski.  Kean held on to that same seven point lead for the 25-18 set two score.

The deciding set was nip and tuck throughout as Nico Mercadante gave Kean the lead for good at 19-18 with an ace.

Shayron Taylor had seven kills with two blocks while Steven Zarzycki added seven kills of his own.  Scott Sawyer led the College of Mt. St. Vincent with seven kills.

The Cougars return to action on day two of the Winter Classic beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
