NEWARK, N.J. (2/28/18)- Dylan Flor tallied a season-high 14 kills and a .545 hitting percentage as the #6 Kean University Men's Volleyball team improved its winning streak to nine games and earned its first program victory over Rutgers-Newark with a straight-set sweep, 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 29-27) at the Golden Dome on Wednesday evening.
Ian Capp handed out 40 assists for the nationally ranked Cougars who improve to 15-2 overall and 4-1 in the Continental Volleyball Conference. Corey Pieper totaled a team-high 12 kills for the Scarlet Raiders who fall to 13-2 overall and 5-1 in the CVC.
Kean also snapped RU's 12 game winning streak in the victory and handed the Scarlet Raiders their first conference loss.
The Cougars hit .333 for the match and maintained above .222 in all three sets. After surviving the opening set, which saw the Scarlet Raiders collect four attack errors in the final four points, Kean rebounded with a .429 hitting percentage in a dominating set two victory.
Kean was pushed to the limit in the third set, as neither team held more than a two-point advantage. After kills by Nico Mercadante and Pieper's evened everything up at 27-27, two RU errors allowed the Cougars to hang on for the victory.
Head Coach Charlie Ginex and the Cougars will return to action on Friday, Mar. 2nd, hosting the Eagles of Juniata College at 7:00 p.m.
