Steinman Earns NJAC Weekly Honors For Second Time

PITMAN, N.J. (4/2/07) - Sophomore Sara Steinman (Springfield, N.J.) was named the NJAC Softball Rookie Player of the Week after batting .500 with a 1.056 slugging percentage in a 5-1 week for the Cougars. 

The two-time Rookie of the Week had two doubles, one triple, two homeruns, eight RBI and eight runs scored, as the Cougars swept both Gwynedd-Mercy and Baruch before splitting with Rowan University in the NJAC opener. 

She hit safely in 5-of-6 games including a 4-for-5 performance with a triple, two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored in Kean's 12-1 non-conference road win at Gwynedd-Mercy. One day later, she went a combined 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored in a pair of 10-0 Kean non-conference wins over Baruch.

Steinman opened NJAC play by going a combined 2-for-5 with a double, three walks, one RBI and two runs scored in the Cougars' 7-6 and 1-6 split with league rival Rowan. Steinman currently ranks fourth in the NJAC in hitting with a .458 batting average.

For the season, the rookie ranks fourth in the NJAC in batting average (.458), sixth in slugging percentage (.750) and on-base percentage (.542) and is tied for seventh in homeruns (3).
