Gierke Tabbed NJAC and ECAC Pitcher of the Week

PITMAN, N.J. (4/16/07) - For the second time this season, sophomore right-hander Meg Gierke (Glen Gardner, N.J.) has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week following a 4-1 week for the Kean University softball team.  In addition, she was also named the ECAC Metro Region Pitcher of the Week after striking out 29 batters in 27.2 innings of work in five appearances.

In a 6-1 and 8-4 doubleheaders sweep of Rutgers-Newark, Gierke earned both victories as she surrendered just two earned runs and had 16 strikeouts in 11.2 combined innings of work.

Gierke wrapped up the week by allowing just three hits and no earned runs in the Cougars' 3-1 NJAC road win over Rutgers-Camden.

For the season, Gierke is 14-1 with 11 complete games and a 1.45 earned run average.  She has 105 strikeouts in 99.0 innings of work.
