Steinman Garners Regional Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss. (5/7/07) - Sophomore Sara Steinman (Springfield, N.J.) earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association East Region second-team honors after leading the Kean University softball team in batting average and homeruns during the regular season.

In her first year playing intercollegiate softball after playing basketball for two seasons at Moravian College, Steinman leads the Cougars with a .390 batting average and has hit six homeruns to tie the single season record set by junior Katy McManus a year ago.  Her team-high 23 walks leads the New Jersey Athletic Conference and ranks 21st in the nation in walks per game (0.68).

The seccnd-team NJAC second-baseman is also tied for team-high honors in hits (39) and her seven doubles are second-best on the squad. 

The Cougars take on Washington and Jefferson University in the first-round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference South Region Tournament on Saturday, May 12.
