GAME TWO: Four-Run Fifth Inning Lifts Cougars Past NJCU, 8-4
The Cougars broke a 2-2 tie with four runs in the fifth inning to complete the sweep with the 8-4 win in the nightcap.
Tied 2-2, second baseman Katie Schuh walked with one-out and third baseman Courtney Melchionna followed with a double to left field to put both runners in scoring position. Sophomore Sandra Binkiewicz drove in Schuh with the go-ahead run with the RBI single up the middle and Melchionna would extend the lead to 4-2, as she scored on a wild pitch that also advanced Binkiewicz to second base. Two batters later, freshman designated player Jess Fanty added a RBI single to score Binkiewicz and Megan Cegielski had the RBI bases-loaded walk for the 6-2 lead.
Kean tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on the two-run single by Fanty, before the Gothic Knights (11-15, 2-4 NJAC) closed out the scoring in the top of the seventh inning with the two-run homerun by first baseman Rebecca Satz.
