Yard Named NJAC Rookie of the Year
PITMAN, N.J. (5/3/12) – Right-hander Courtney Yard became the first player in program history to be named New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year after leading the Kean University softball team to a 10-8 conference mark and a berth in the NJAC playoffs.
A six-time NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week, Yard appeared in 16 conference games, making 12 starts, as she posted an 8-7 record with a 1.66 earned run average. She only allowed three of less hits In five of her 12 starts, and recorded 67 strikeouts in 88.2 innings of work.
Yard led the NJAC in innings pitched, appearances and starts in conference action, while also ranking second in strikeouts and wins.
For the season, Yard has 18 wins, the fifth most in single season history, while her 146 strikeouts are the second most in school history. She has allowed three or less hits in 15 games this season.
