Softball Bows Out of NCAA Tournament

Virginia Beach, Va. (5/20/17) – The Kean University softball team bowed out of the NCAA tournament with a 1-0 setback to top seeded Virginia Wesleyan College.

With the win VWC advances to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

The Marlins broke through in the top of the seventh as Madison Glaubke singled through the left side with one out.  Jessica Lindsay erased the shutout with a double to deep center off the wall for the 1-0 lead.  Shannon McMahon fought around a catcher's interference call with a strikeout and Caroline Ratti held the deficit to one with a diving catch in right center to end the inning.

Sophomore Cayleen Rizo broke up the no-hitter with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

The Cougars finish their season with a 36-10 overall record.

Hannah Hull improved to 29-2 with a complete game shutout, striking out seven as she was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher of the Super Regional.  Lindsay was named the Most Outstanding Player after delivering the game winning RBI.
