Track Has Strong Showing at Osprey Open
POMONA, N.J. (4/7/07) - Seniors Liz
Bauer (Rahway, N.J.) and Brian Sims (Keyport,
N.J.) and sophomore Erin Jones (Upper Saddle
River, N.J.) each won an event to lead a strong showing at
the Osprey Open at Richard Stockton College on Saturday
afternoon.
In her first meet of the season, Bauer won the javelin throw
with a toss of 31.28 meters (102-11).
Jones' busy afternoon was highlighted with a victory in the pole
vault with a jump of 2.70 meters (8-10.25). Jones also
finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (18.27), sixth in the long
jump (4.60m/15-01.25), seventh in the high jump (1.38m/4-06.25) and
23rd in the 200-meter dash (31.72).
Sims won the 3000-meter steeplechase by more than 10 seconds,
finishing in 10:24.40.
Sophomore Sherene Stephens (Orange, N.J.) had a
strong meet, placing second in the triple jump (34-07.50) and third
in the 100-meter hurdles (18.03).
In other men's action, sophomore Jason Staggers
(Jackson, N.J.) finished second in the long jump
(6.61m/21-08.25) and eighth in the triple jump
(13.09m/42-11.50). Freshman Alvin Davis (Paterson,
N.J.) was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.67), while
junior Nelson Stryker (Milltown, N.J.) was seventh
in both the 200 meters (23.03) and 400 meters (52.31).
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, April 14, when they
compete at the Seventh Annual Bill Omeltchenko Track Meet at
USMMA-Kings Point.
