Track Competes at CTC Championships

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (4/20/08) - The Kean University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the CTC Championships at DeSales University, as both teams finished in 12th place.

Sophomore Jan Bush (Abington, Pa.) and junior Erin Jones (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) paced the women's team, each with a pair of top eight finishes, while junior Jason Staggers (Jackson, N.J.) placed in all three jumping events.

In the pole vault, Jones vaulted a school-record 3.10 meters (10-2) to qualify for the ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships.  She also added an eighth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (17.48), after qualifying for the finals in 17.01 seconds.

Bush had a solid showing in the throwing events, placing third in the javelin throw (32.54 meters/106-9) and fifth in the shot put (11.33 meters/37-2.25).  Rookie Jamie Grenger (Hazlet, N.J.) added a fourth-place finish in the javelin (29.49 meters/96-9).

Staggers finished second in the long jump with a ECAC qualifying leap of 6.60 meters (21-8), and added a fifth place finish in the triple jump (12.61 meters/41-4.5) and eighth place finish in the high jump (1.75 meters/5-8.75).

Freshman John Badala (Scotch Plains, N.J.) finished fourth in the shot put (13.63 meters/44-8.75), while freshman Josh Chavanne (Elizabeth, N.J.) was fourth in the pole vault (3.95 meters/12-11.5). 

Junior Sean Oyelaja (Lagos, Nigeria) rounded out the Kean place-winners, finishing sixth in the 100-meter dash in the 11.42 seconds.
