Track Competes at Lions' Invite

EWING, N.J. (4/26/08) - The Kean University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Lions' Invite at The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon in a final tune-up before the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships in a week.

In the men's meet, junior Sean Oyelaja (Lagos, Nigeria), had a pair of top finishes, placing third in the 200-meter dash in a ECAC Division III Outdoor Championship qualifying time 22.44 seconds, while also adding a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.35).  Rookie Marques Wallace (Vauxhall, N.J.) also finished in the top eight of the sprints, placing sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.22) and eighth in the 100-meter dash (11.49).

Freshman Josh Chavanne (Elizabeth, N.J.) placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (57.95) and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.83), while junior Jason Staggers (Jackson, N.J.) was fifth in the long jump (6.57 meters). 

For the women, freshman Jamie Grenger (Hazlet, N.J.) had the team's top individual finish with a fifth place showing in the javelin throw (32.10 meters).  Freshman Jan Bush (Abington, Pa.) added a sixth place finish in the shot put (11.14 meters), while junior Erin Jones (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) was seventh in the pole vault (3.07 meters). 

On the track,  junior Demeka Pressley (Trenton, N.J.) placed eighth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.74 seconds.

In the relays, the women's 1600-meter relay team won in a time of 4:12.33, while the men's 400-meter relay team placed second in 44.20 seconds.

The Cougars compete at the NJAC Championships on Saturday, May 3, at Richard Stockton College.
