BEYRUTI EARNS NJAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

PITMAN, N.J. (1/22/07) - For the second straight week and third time this season, sophomore guard Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball player of the week, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Beyruti averaged 20.0 points and 4.5 assists in a 2-0 week for the Cougars.

Against Rowan University, the guard scored a game-high 23 points, including five three-pointers, and added four assists and five steals in the 84-46 victory.

In a 78-55 win over visiting Montclair State University, Beyruti added a game-high 17 points and five assists, as the Cougars won their eighth straight game to improve to 16-1.

For the season, Beyruti leads the NJAC in scoring (17.3 points per game) and three-point field goals made (3.53 per game), while ranking third in free throw percentage (37-of-45, 82.2 percent) and fourth in assists (3.53 per game).

Currently ranked #21 by D3hoops.com and #23 in the USAToday/ESPN Coaches Poll, the Cougars host Rutgers-Camden in NJAC South Division action on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
