Beyruti Earns NJAC Honor for Second Time This Season

PITMAN, N.J. (12/31/07) - Junior guard Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season after scoring her 1000th career point and leading the Kean University women's basketball team to the Sunsational Hoops Classic Championship in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

In the opener against Alvernia, Beyruti scored 16 points, giving her 1,011 career points and becoming the 14th player in program history to reach the milestone. 

The following night, Beyruti scored a game-high 22 points and added five assists, four rebounds and three steals to lead the Cougars to an 81-55 win over Cabrini College in the title game. 

Beyruti, a Kodak/WBCA Honorable Mention All-American a year ago, currently leads the NJAC in scoring at 17.3 points per game.
