Women's Basketball Tops Methodist, 71-66

Grantham, Pa. (11/17/12) – Sophomore AnnaRose Pierre tallied a team-high 18 points as she helped the Kean University women's basketball team to their first win of the season by topping Methodist University, 71-66, Saturday afternoon in the Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament.

Pierre, who was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts, also added eight rebounds as Kean improves to 1-1 this season.

After a see-saw battle in the opening minutes of the first half, the Cougars paced an offensive attack and pushed out to a 13 point advantage as rookie Jatirah Diggs nailed a three-pointer with just under seven minutes to go in the half.  Methodist battled back, and closed within four at the break, 36-32. 

Diggs led all players with 16 points in the first 20 minutes while teammate Sharell Lowe added five rebounds.

The two teams then exchanged leads in the first five minutes of action of the second half, before the Cougars took the lead for good with 14:26 to go as Pierre hit a layup putting the score at 46-45. 

Senior Kyanne Sager finished the day with 10 points and five rebounds while sophomore Shanice Jones recorded six points, six rebounds and seven assists.

Kean returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Richard Stockton College.
