UNION, N.J. (1/6/15) – The Kean University women's basketball team fell to William Paterson University 76-50 in Wednesday's NJAC matchup. The Cougars are now 9-4 and 4-2 in the NJAC.
Marajiah Bacon led the Cougars with 19 points on the evening.
The Cougars started off trailing 10-0 five minutes into the game. A Pioneer foul gave Marajiah Bacon an opportunity to score the first two points of the game for the Cougars on the line.
At the end of the first half, Kean gained momentum with a fast break lay-in by Danielle Oakley set up by Tori Schweyher. Following a Pioneers turnover, the Cougars answered back with a put-back two from Diana Todaro (pictured left) after an offensive rebound.
After a hands-y first half, Kean had 11 fouls and William Paterson racked up 13.
Kean fought back in the second half, but it was not enough to rally against the Pioneers. Marajiah Bacon led the Cougars in points in the second half with nine. Freshman Brianna Skinner had perhaps the best game of her young career, contributing six points, two assists, two steals and five rebounds in 12 minutes.
Todaro was the only Cougar in double-figure rebounds with 10. Of 21 attempted free throws, the Cougars put away 17 on the evening – 81 percent shooting.
The Pioneers were led by Alex Milne with 23 points. William Paterson is now 7-6 and 3-3 in conference play.
The Cougars will travel to Rowan for NJAC matchup on Saturday, January 9th at 3:00 p.m.
