Pitman, N.J. (2/13/17) – Sophomore Marajiah Bacon and freshman De'Mean Bond swept the weekly New Jersey Athletic Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference awards as announced by the conference on Monday.
Bacon earns NJAC Player of the Week honors for the second time this season after averaging 33.0 points, 3.5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game during a 1-1 week of conference play for the Cougars.
She opened the week by registering 26 points, four rebounds, six assists, and five steals in Kean's NJAC defeat to Rowan. Three days later, she tallied a season-high 40 points along with two steals and one assist in a 76-70 NJAC road win at Stockton which clinched the number two seed and a first round bye in the upcoming NJAC Tournament for Kean. In the two games combined, she played 75 of a possible 80 minutes and shot .780 (21-of-27) from the free throw line.
Bacon currently leads the NJAC in scoring (23.0 points per game) and is seventh nationally in the same category.
Bond earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for the sixth time this season and the third consecutive week after averaging a double-double 17.5 points, 16.5 rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 4.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week for Kean.
She opened the week with a double-double 16 points, 21 rebounds, four blocks, and five steals in an NJAC defeat to Rowan. She then registered her 13th double-double of the season by notching 19 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks, and three steals in a 76-70 NJAC road win at Stockton.
Bond currently leads the NJAC in rebounding (12.8 boards per game) and is seventh in Division III in the same category.
