GLASSBORO, N.J. (2/7/18)- De'Mean Bond finished with 14 points, six rebounds and five steals as the Kean University women's basketball team was upended by Rowan University 76-67 on Wednesday evening.
Alex Raring totaled 17 points for the Profs who improve to 13-9 overall and 10-6 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Payce Lange finished with 13 points and four steals for the Cougars who fall to 9-13 overall and 6-10 in the NJAC.
Bond scored the first six Cougars points as Kean rallied from an early 5-0 deficit to take a 13-12 lead on a Lange free-throw with 4:27 remaining in the first. Rowan responded with a 20-5 run over the next 6:43 to take their largest lead at 32-18 with 7:44 remaining. That run propelled the Profs to a 48-34 lead at intermission. Kean shot an identical 41.2% from the floor in both quarters, while Rowan posted north of 50.0% for the entire opening stanza.
In the second half, Kean used a 12-4 run to cut the Prof's halftime lead down to 52-46 with 3:51 remaining. Rowan stretched their advantage back to 57-48 with five made free throws towards the end of the third.
In the fourth, Rowan increased their lead to 65-50, but a 17-6 Cougars' run pulled the lead down to 71-67 on a Brielle Colgero three-pointer with 39 seconds to play. That would be the closest the Cougars would get as the Profs made seven free throws down the stretch, including a perfect 5-for-5 after Colgero's made triple.
Olivia Rulon and Summer Crilley each tallied 13 points apiece for Rowan. Danielle Oakley totaled 12 points, six assists, five rebounds and four steals in the loss for Kean.
Head Coach Mandy King and the Cougars will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 10th, hosting the Ospreys of Stockton University at 3:00 p.m.
