Women’s Basketball Rallies to Defeat Salisbury on Day 1 of Kean Classic

UNION, N.J. (11/17/17) - Marajiah Bacon finished with 25 points, five rebounds and five steals as the Kean University women's basketball team earned their first victory of the season with a 50-48 defeat of Salisbury University on Day 1 of the Kean Classic.

Lorenzah Hammer finished with eight rebounds and seven blocks for the Cougars who improve to 1-1 overall. Megan Konig finished with 18 points and six rebounds for the Sea Gulls who fall to 1-1 overall.

The Sea Gulls dominated the opening stanza by shooting 45.2% from the floor and holding the Cougars to just eight field goals on 20.0% shooting. Kean trailed 30-17 at the break.

In the second half, Salisbury jumped out to a 36-19 lead before Kean rallied with a 13-0 run in the final 5:07 to cut the Sea Gulls lead down to 36-32 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Bacon proved to be clutch in the final quarter, scoring 11 points and connecting on a huge three pointer with 1:17 remaining, which gave Kean their first lead of the contest.  

Latice Cunningham finished with eight points, four rebounds and four steals. Danielle Oakley totaled six points, six rebounds and three steals.

Head Coach Mandy King and the Cougars will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 18th, hosting the Cavaliers of Cabrini University in the Championship of the Kean Classic at 2 p.m.
