MONTCLAIR, N.J. (11/21/17)- Marajiah Bacon finished with a team-high 22 points as the Kean University women's basketball team dropped their NJAC opener to No. 23 Montclair State University, 68-51 on Tuesday evening.
Katie Sire finished with 20 points and nine rebounds for the Red Hawks who improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Danielle Oakley totaled seven points, four rebounds and three steals for the Cougars who fall to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC.
After a back and forth opening quarter, which saw Kean take a 16-13 lead on back-to-back buckets by Payce Lange and Miesha Bacon, MSU closed the half with a 23-3 run and held a 36-19 advantage at halftime.In the second half, the Red Hawks stayed in control and stretched their lead to as large as 58-32 with 8:11 remaining the fourth.
Bacon finished with eight points, eight rebounds, and three steals, while Lange added five points and five rebounds. For the contest, Kean shot 28.8% from the floor compared to MSU's 42.6%.
Head Coach Mandy King and the Cougars will return to action in Newark, N.J. on Wednesday, Nov. 29th, against the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark at 6:00 p.m.
