Romeo Tops Kean's Women's Lacrosse All-Stars

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (05/05/08) - In the midst of its finest season in school history, the Kean University women's lacrosse team placed six players on the Skyline Conference all-star teams, including four on the first-team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Rookie attack Rosalia Romeo (pictured right) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year and joined junior Stephanie Cirino, sophomore Chelsea Davis and freshman Ashlie Berghold on the first-team.  Freshman attack Amanda South and senior Alli Green rounded out the Cougar all-stars with second-team recognition.

The Cougars (14-5) broke the school-record for wins in a season and earned the program's first ECAC bid,.

Three different players broke the single-season points record this season, led by Romeo (Ridgewood, N.J.) with her 94 points on the strength of 64 goals and a school-record 30 assists.  She also led the Skyline in points per game (5.22) and assists per game (1.67).

Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) broke the single-season goals record with 74 goals, while her 93 points rank second in school history after also breaking the single-season record.  A two-time Skyline Player of the Week, Cirino led the conference in goals per game (3.89).

Davis (Livingston, N.J.) and Berghold (Boyertown, Pa.) anchored a Cougar defense that ranked first in the conference in goals against average (9.81) and allowed fewer than five goals five times during the season.  Davis (pictured left) led the conference in draw controls per game (3.74) and was tied for second in caused turnovers per game (1.68), while Berghold ranked second in saves per game (10.11) and save percentage (.511).

A two-time Rookie of the Week selection, South (Fairless, Pa.) ranked third on the team in goals (58), while her 81 points are third in single-season history and 23 assists are second in program history behind Romeo. 

Green (West Deptford, N.J.) earns second-team honors for the second-straight season after posting her best season, ranking fourth on the team with career bests of 37 goals and 45 points.

The Cougars host Cabrini College in the ECAC South Championships on Wednesday, May 7, at 7 p.m.
