FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (4/29/09) - Senior Stephanie Cirino (Warminster, Pa.) and sophomore Amanda South (Fairless, Pa.) combined for 10 goals, however the Kean University women's lacrosse team fell to top-seeded Farmingdale State College, 24-16, in the Skyline Conference semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.
Cirino had five goals and two assists in her final career game for the fourth-seeded Cougars (6-11).
The Cougars kept the game close in the opening half, scoring the
final two goals of the half by freshman Nicole Torre (Toms
River, N.J.) and South (pictured right) to pull within 7-5
at the break.
Farmingdale opened the second half with the first two goals and Cirino answered with a goal to cut the Ram lead to 9-6, however Farmingdale scored 10 of the next 11 goals to build a 19-7 lead with 14:19 remaining.
Kean scored five unanswered goals, including three by Cirino, to cut the lead back to single-digits at 19-12, before the two teams alternated the final nine goals of the game.
Torre finished with four goals and five draw controls for the Cougars. Freshmen goalkeepers Gina Petrizzo (Hopatcong, N.J.) and Sabrina Vargas (Elizabeth, N.J.) combined to make 10 saves in the goal for Kean.
