UNION, N.J. (4/21/12) – Junior Lyndsey Cannon scored eight goals and had an assist to lead the Kean University women's lacrosse team to a 23-10 win over Arcadia University in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Julie Knodt scored the first two goals of the game en-route to adding five goals and two assist for the Cougars (9-6). Freshman Hayley Molloy finished with five goals for the Knights (7-8).
Knodt opened the scoring with two goals in the first five minutes of action and junior Stephanie Tocko extended the lead to 3-0 with a free position goal less than a minute later. Molloy scored two of the next three goals of the game to pull Arcadia to within 4-2, however Kean scored the next four goals and seven of the next eight goals to extend the lead to 11-3 with a goal by Tocko with exactly five minutes left in the half. Molloy scored two of the final three goals of the half, as Kean led 12-5 at the break.
Tocko opened the second half scoring, before the Cougars opened the double-digit lead with four straight goals for the 17-6 lead with 21:18 remaining.
Arcadia netted two of the next three goals to pull to within 19-9, before Cannon scored back-to-back goals as part of four straight goals by the Cougars to pull away for the win.
Tocko finished with five goals and a game-high three assists, while sophomore Ciara Mastrodomenico (pictured left) added five goals and eight draw controls.
Keeper Jules Keeley made six saves for Kean.
For the Knights, Jenna Crothers added three goals, while goalkeeper Deanna Thompson made nine saves.
Kean travels to Farmingdale State College on Wednesday, April 25, for the Skyline Conference semifinals. The game starts at 4 p.m.
