Women’s Lacrosse Opens Skyline Play with 20-Goal Outburst
UNION, N.J. (3/16/13) – The Kean University women's lacrosse team scored 10-straight goals at one point of its Skyline Conference matchup with the College of Mt. St. Vincent to blow the game open en route to a 20-6 triumph on Saturday.
Over the first twenty minutes, the teams were tied up at four as the plucky Dolphins used two free-position goals and two more unassisted scores to match goals scored by four different Cougars: Maggie Brocklebank, Lyndsey Cannon, Samantha Gnapp and Stephanie Tocko.
After Tocko's goal, Kean began to assert itself and scored six of the last seven goals of the half to take a 9-5 lead into the locker room. Cannon, Gnapp and Tocko all struck again in the opening period and Ciara Mastrodomenico scored twice, including a free-position conversion with no time left on the clock. With 14 total goals scored in the first half, Cannon was the only player for either side with an assist to her credit; the senior had four.
The second half was anticlimactic, with the Cougars knocking in nine-straight goals to begin the period and remove the drama from the proceedings. Cannon (pictured left) finished with four goals and four assists to lead Kean in both categories. Tocko and Gnapp both notched hat tricks, and Kelly Bachovchin, Julie Knodt, Kat Halasz, Meghan Schneck and Hannah Jones all scored for the Cougars.
Jules Keeley made seven saves to earn the win in goal.
Kean will hit the road for a game with double-conference rival Ramapo College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
