UNION, N.J. (3/20/13) – Captains Lyndsey Cannon and Ciara Mastrodomenico combined for 11 goals and 14 points to lead the Kean University women's lacrosse team to a 19-8 win on Wednesday against Ramapo College. Kean outshot the Roadrunners 54-20 over the course of the afternoon.
The outcome was never in doubt, as Stephanie Tocko, Cannon and Julie Knodt scored the first three goals of the game for the Cougars. Mastrodomenico, Samantha Gnapp and Maggie Brocklebank were also part of Kean's balanced first-half attack.
Though the score was a relatively tight 7-3 at the break, Kean dominated shots 26-6. One of the bright spots for the Roadrunners was the play of goaltender Reagan Vier, who had 10 saves in the first half alone and finished with 21. Cannon had the only assist for Kean in the first half.
As it had to start the game, Kean scored the first three goals of the second half to take a 10-3 lead. Though Ramapo scored the next two, Mastrodomenico (pictured left) and Cannon ended whatever momentum the Roadrunners gained with two goals each over the next seven minutes for a 14-5 advantage.
Fittingly, the two captains hooked up for the final goal of the game to put the finishing touch on the all-important double-conference victory over their in-state rivals. Goaltender Jules Keeley made 11 saves to earn the win in goal for the Cougars.
The women's lacrosse team will travel to St. Joseph's of Long Island on Friday evening for its next game.
