Cannon Breaks Women's Lacrosse Groundball Record

UNION, N.J. (3/26/13) – Senior Lyndsey Cannon broke the Kean University women's lacrosse career record for ground balls in the Cougars' 22-9 setback against Montclair State on Tuesday. Cannon now has 201 career groundballs, eclipsing 1999 graduate Jen LaBelle's four-year total of 198.

The Red Hawks scored the first three markers of the game, but Cannon, Kelly Bachovchin and Stephanie Tocko each scored unassisted goals to tie the game up at three halfway through the first period.

From there, MSU took over and scored six unanswered goals (and 10 of the next 13) to take a 13-6 lead into the locker room.

Cannon still managed a hat trick on her record-setting day. The Cougars also got offense from Ciara Mastrodomenico, Marissa Santiago and Jordan Blanda, though they were never able to gain traction to get within striking distance in the second half.

Montclair was lead by senior Kailee Beal, who scored six goals in the contest.

Kean hung close in many other statistical categories: draw controls were 17-16, turnovers 19-16 and saves 15-14.

The Cougars will have a week off before journeying to Farmingdale State College next Tuesday for a 4 p.m. game.
