Women's Lacrosse Knocked Off by TCNJ

Ewing, N.J. (5/1/14) - Danielle Tomminelli scored the lone goal for the Cougars, as the Kean University women's lacrosse team was eliminated from the inaugural NJAC tournament by The College of New Jersey, 20-1 on Thursday evening.

The Lions (16-1), ranked fourth nationally, advance to the NJAC championship game, where they will battle Rowan University on Saturday.

TCNJ jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Ava Fitzgerald scored just 53 seconds into the contest. After Lauren Pigott tallied another goal for the Lions, Tomminelli (pictured left) connected to bring the Cougars (9-8) within one goal, as she connected off a feed from Julie Knodt. The Lions never looked back from that point, scoring 12 additional goals in the opening 30 minutes of play.

Jen Garavente recorded points five of the six Lions goals in the second stanza, contributing three goals and two assists. She finished the game with four goals and four assists. Kelly Schlupp made one save for the Lions. Daniella Wagenti recorded four saves, and had three groundballs in the losing effort for the Cougars.

Kean will play the waiting game to see if they will be awarded an ECAC berth, which will be announced on Monday.
