Wesleyan Wins Over Women's Lacrosse

Union, N.J. (3/23/17) – Wesleyan University used a powerful first half to top the Kean University women's lacrosse team by the final of 19-7 on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.

Senior Meredith Smith led all players with five goals on the day as the Cardinals improved to 5-2 on the season.  For the Cougars (6-2) junior Krista LaMaina recorded a team-high three goals, all free-position.

Kean pushed out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first four minutes as LaMaina and Morgan Graham netted free position goals and Graham followed off a pretty pass from Meghan Tillger.

Wesleyan adjusted and found their rhythm and would score the next six to take a lead they would not relinquish.  Rachel Aronow and Smith each recorded two in the spurt.

The Cougars pulled within one (6-5) with two goals a minute apart (12:21 & 11:18) as LaMaina (pictured left) and Andrea Trentacosti found the back of the net but that would be as close as they would get as Wesleyan poured on nine more before the break.

For Kean, Graham finished with two goals while Emily Stasuk registered five draw controls.

For the Cardinals, Julia Gretsky, Liana Mathias and Caitlin Wood all tallied two goals in the win.

Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to FDU-Florham for a 4 p.m. matchup.
