Madison, N.J. (3/29/17) – Junior Emily Stasuk netted the game-winner with just three seconds on the clock as the Kean University women's lacrosse team edged FDU-Florham by the final of 9-8 on Wednesday afternoon.
Tied at eight-all for over 17 minutes, the Cougars were awarded a free position attempt with mere seconds on the clock in regulation. Rookie Danni LeSaint fed Stasuk who came through for the win.
Kean (7-2) controlled the matchup early, tying the game at 1-1 on a free position goal from Brittany Ballack and taking the lead as Morgan Graham found the back of the net on a pass from Meghan Tillger. The Cougars would push the advantage to as many as five (7-2) with a four goal spurt over eight minutes in the first half.
FDU (5-2) responded with two goals to close out the half and stormed out of the break with three straight in the first seven minutes to knot the game at seven-all. Stasuk gave Kean the lead back 15 seconds later on a free position goal but the Devils' Brienna Reasoner evened the match right back with 17:31 to go.
That is how it stood until Stasuk's game winner gave Kean the win in regulation.
Junior Nikki Apostolopoulos (pictured left) tallied 17 saves in the win for the Cougars.
Kean enjoys a short break and will face another Madison opponent in Drew University next Wednesday.
