Women's Lacrosse Edged by Elizabethtown in OT

Elizabethtown, Pa. (4/27/17) – Three Cougars scored hat tricks but the Kean University women's lacrosse team was edged by Elizabethtown College, 14-13, in overtime on Thursday evening.

Madelyn Baker scored the first and last goal of Thursday evening's contest.  She completed her hat trick 28 seconds into overtime.

The Blue Jays (11-3) jumped out to a 3-1 lead halfway through the first period, but goals from Brittany Ballack and Taylor Hynes knotted the game at three-all before Katie Thompson gave E-town a slight edge at the break.

The game opened up in the second half. After just seven combined goals between the two squads, 19 were scored in the final 30 minutes.

Down two goals with just over five minutes to go, Ballack and Morgan Graham (pictured left) helped the Cougars even the score at 13-13. Kean grabbed the draw control after Graham's game-tying goal with 2:31 left and called timeout.

The Cougars had control to take the final shot. Ballack had a free position attempt with 43 seconds left but it went high. She had a second free position go right of the goal with only 1.4 seconds to go. The clock ran out and the teams went into overtime.

In the overtime period, Addie Stang gave Elizabethtown possession first and it only took one shot for the Jays to win the game in sudden victory. Stang's fourth assist of the game set up Baker, who ran in on goal and fired a shot that found the back of the net for the win.

Kean closes out the regular season on Saturday for senior day against #1 The College of New Jersey.
