Women's Soccer Handles Manhattanville, 4-1

PURCHASE, N.Y. (9/9/06) - Kean University senior forward Heather Anzivino (Belford, N.J.) scored three goals and added an assist, as the Cougars defeated host Manhattanville College, 4-1, in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars improved to 3-0 this season, while the Valiants dropped to 2-2.

Trailing 1-0 following an early goal by Manhattanville freshman forward Cybil Robinson (South Lake Tahoe, Calif.) just six minutes into the contest, Anzivino netted a pair of goals just 40 seconds apart to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead midway through the first half.

Kean senior midfielder Brienne Campbell (Freehold, N.J.) added a goal just before halftime, as she one-timed a pass from Anzivino past the Manhattanville goalkeeper for the 3-1 edge.

Anzivino added her sixth goal of the year and the team's final of the game, as she scored off the assist from senior midfielder Lisa Battaglia (Gibbstown, N.J.).

In the goal for Kean, sophomore Samantha Areman (Freehold, N.J.) and freshman Nicole Groszen (Denville, N.J.) combined to stop five shots, while Valiants senior keeper Michele Ribeiro (West Harford, Conn.) made three saves in the losing effort.

Kean returns to action on Tuesday, September 12, when they travel to Madison, N.J., to take on Drew University in non-conference action at 7:30 p.m.
