Galloway, N.J. (11/11/12) – Senior Carly Seidel scored the game-winner in overtime lifting the Kean University women's soccer team past Richard Stockton College, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Kean claims the 2012 ECAC Metro Championship. The Championship is the first for the program in their 30 year history. For her efforts, Seidel was named the Most Outstanding Player for the tournament. Seidel notched three goals in two days of action.
The Cougars were able to take a 1-0 lead early in the second half as Seidel knocked a loose ball past onrushing Stockton keeper Sarah Hinkle and deposited the ball into the empty net with just over five minutes into the second half. Rookie Angie Lopez served the long ball forward to collect the assist on the scoring play.
Stockton did not manage a shot on goal during the first 45 minutes but pressured the Cougars throughout the second half. Kiera Hines ripped a shot that Kean netminder KC Nunez tipped off the crossbar for Stockton's best opportunity until the last 1:30 of regulation. The Ospreys drew a penalty kick with 90 seconds remaining and Briana Fischer blasted a shot to the left corner to tie the game at 1-1 and send it to the overtime.
Kean then took the championship as Seidel broke behind the Stockton defense once again, this time on a long pass from senior Jaclyn Janicky, and she beat Hinkle to the far side with 4:43 left for the winning score.
