Union, N.J. (9/13/17) - Emily Jurcsek got the action started on Wednesday night to help send the Kean University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Manhattanville College.
Kean dominated the first half of the game as they controlled most of the offensive possessions. With 33 minutes remaining in the first half, the Cougars (4-2) were set up with a throw-in deep into the Valiants half of the field. Mallory Noordeloos found the ball at her feet outside the 18 and sent a one-time pass to Jurcsek who took one touch and buried it past the diving goal keeper to get Kean on the board.
Senior Jordan Thuman added to the Cougar lead as she ripped a shot just over the outstretched arm of the keeper and into the back of the net. Thuman received the ball about 30 yards out, and after a few touches up field, finished the shot to add insurance for Kean.
The Valiants made a strong effort in the second half as they got on the board with 24 minutes remaining. Bri Altamuro sent a pass up field to Samira Davis who pushed the ball past the keeper and into the right corner for the score. The Cougar defense held strong to keep Manhattanville of the board for the remainder of the game and solidify the victory.
Kean returns to action on Saturday as they take on Stockton University in their first conference game of the year.
