Women's Soccer Defeats NJCU, 3-1

Union, N.J. (10/11/17) - The Kean University women's soccer team topped New Jersey City University by a final of 3-1 on Wednesday night.

The Cougars got the scoring started set up with a corner kick early in the first half.  Senior Kendall Machak sent a beautiful cross into the box as senior Mallory Noordeloos timed her run perfectly to send a header to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Minutes later, Sabrina Pascarella made a great hustle play by taking advantage of a Gothic Knight miscue.  Pascarella found the ball at her feet just outside the box and took a shot past the drawn out goalie to make the score 2-0.

Both teams made great pushes during the remainder of the half but were held off the board as the game went to the break.

After nine minutes into the second half, the Cougars added some insurance to their lead with a goal from Deana Abdou.  The Cougars were set up with a free kick about twenty yards out.  Abdou sent the long shot towards the top of the goal, off the outstretched arm of the keeper, and into the back of the net.

Later in the half, NJCU got on the board as Mallensy Vargas sent a pass into the box to Katherine Merino who finished the shot for the score.

Kean returns to action on Saturday as they go on the road to take on the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden at 1 p.m.
