Women’s Soccer Bows Out of NJAC Championship on Penalty Kick Shootout

UNION, N.J. (10/28/17) - The Kean University women's soccer team bowed out of the first round of the NJAC Championship after a penalty kick shootout decided a scoreless double overtime tie with Stockton University on Saturday evening.

The Ospreys improve to 9-10-2 overall, while the Cougars end their season at 11-6-2 overall.

The contest was fairly even throughout with Stockton leading on shots in the opening stanza (10-6) and Kean edging on shots (8-3) in the second half. The Cougars dominated on shots 7-0 in the overtime sessions as the game eventually entered a penalty kick shootout after 110 minutes had elapsed.

In the shootout, Kendall Machak, Cori Dengel, Lexy Monroy, Brittany Birth and Mallory Noordeloos all made successful kicks for Kean. The Ospreys also connected on all five kicks as well. On the sixth kick, Kara Staudenmayer shot sailed pass Kean keeper Casey McDonnell. Emily Jurcsek was selected to take the next kick and her shot attempt was stopped by Nicole Pallante for the victory.

Stockton advances to the NJAC semifinals against the top seeded Lions of TCNJ on Halloween night at 7:30 p.m.
