Women’s Swimming Drops Season Opener to SUNY Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (10/25/17) – The Kean University women's swimming team dropped their season opener to the Privateers of SUNY Maritime, 109-84 at the Riesenberg Aquatic Center on Wednesday evening. The Privateers improve to 1-0, while the Cougars fall to 0-1.

Despite the loss, KU won the 50-yard freestyle event and the 100-yard butterfly event. Nicole Rodas won the freestyle event with a time of 29:34, edging out Maritime's Gabrielle Thompson (29:40). In the 100 butterfly event, Molly Lasko won with a time of 1:17.86, edging out Erica Davis (1:24.68) in second place.

Kean also picked up first-place points in the 100-yard breaststroke event with Stephanie Kontra and the 200-yard free relay event with Darlene Holmes, Lasko, Kontra and Rodas.  

This was the first meet for Kean in more than a decade after the program was stopped after the 2002-03 season.

Head Coach Barbara Perkins and the Cougars will return to the pool in Mahwah, N.J. on Saturday, Oct. 28th, against the Roadrunners of Ramapo College at 2:00 p.m.
