Cougars Fall to Rutgers-Newark in Tennis Action,

HILLSIDE, N.J. (9/8/07) - The
Rutgers-Newark women's tennis team defeated host Kean University,
7-2, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action in the NJAC opener
for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
The victory improved the Scarlet Raiders to 2-0 overall, 1-0 in
the NJAC, while the Cougars dropped to 0-1 overall, 0-1 in the
conference in their season opener.
The Cougars were victorious in both second and third
doubles. Senior Laura Kuchar (Metuchen, N.J.) and freshman
Oliva Shapiro (Beachwood, N.J.) paired up at second doubles and
defeated the Scarlet Raiders 8-3. Freshman Katherin Arauz
(Newark, N.J.) and sophomore Michelle Tofel (Union, N.J.) were
paired at third doubles and won by the same score, 8-3.
Kean returns to action on Monday, September 10, when they travel
to FDU-Florham for a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
