Evelyn Alfaro is entering her fourth season as the head coach of women's tennis at Kean University.  Alfaro became the Cougars' 10th head coach in program history when she was hired in the summer of 2004.

Prior to her arrival at Kean, Alfaro was the head women's and assistant men's tennis coach at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., where she guided the Ducks to the Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and Independent Athletic Conference (IAC) team championships in 1996, and was named the WIAC Coach of the Year. During her two-year tenure as head women's coach, seven of her players garnered all-WIAC honors and one was named the IAC Player of the Year.

Alfaro is at a rated level 4.5 by the United State Tennis Association. She has served on the board of directors of the Arlington Players Club, a private tennis club in Kearny, N.J., and was a four-time singles and doubles champion at the club (1993, 1996, 1999, 2001). Alfaro was also a member of the 4.0 USTA tennis team in Longwood, N.J., that won the regional championships in 1995 and from 2001 through 2004.

A first-grade teacher for the gifted and talented at the Edward T. Bowser School in East Orange, N.J., Alfaro was named the Teacher of the Year for the 2006-2007 school year.  She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in advertising from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and a Master of Arts degree in education for administration from St. Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J.
