Volleyball Defeats Rosemont, Ursinus in Home Opener

UNION, N.J. (9/9/06) - Kean University sophomore outside hitter Jen Carvalho (Rahway, N.J.) had 17 kills and 20 digs, as the Cougars defeated Rosemont College (30-17, 30-10, 30-19) and Ursinus College (30-25, 30-32, 30-20, 30-28) in a non-conference volleyball tri-match on Saturday afternoon. Ursinus defeated Rosemont (30-13, 30-15, 30-14) in the other match of the day.

For Kean (6-0), senior outside hitter Liz Bauer (Rahway, N.J.) added a combined 14 kills 20 digs between the two matches, while freshman Colleen Masterson (Rahway, N.J.) dished out 39 assists on the afternoon.

Ursinus (1-2) was led by junior middle hitter Jill Alspach (Farmington Hills, Mich.), as she tallied 24 kills and seven digs. Senior setter Melissa George (King of Prussia, Pa.) added 49 assists combined for Ursinus.

Senior outside hitter Veronica Bates (Gradyville, Pa.) had six kills and 18 digs to lead Rosemont (0-5) in the two matches.
