Rutgers-Newark Handles Volleyball
UNION, N.J. (9/21/06) - Rutgers-Newark freshman
outside hitter Jessica Cockerham (Keller, Texas)
tallied a match-high 14 kills and added nine digs, as the Scarlet
Raiders defeated host Kean University in straight games (30-24,
30-24, 30-23) in New Jersey Athletic Conference volleyball action
on Thursday evening. The victory improved Rutgers-Newark to 12-4
overall, 3-0 in the conference, while the Cougars dropped to 9-4
overall, 1-2 in the NJAC.
For the host Cougars, senior outside hitter Elizabeth Bauer
(Rahway, N.J.) tallied a team-high seven kills and 12
digs, while sophomore outside hitter Lauren Vazquez
(Edgewater, N.J.) added six kills and seven digs.
In the victory, sophomore setter Nazly Hasanizadeh (Katy,
Texas) had 29 assists, seven kills and five digs, while
freshman outside hitter Katlyn Lewis (Hillsdale,
N.J.) added seven kills and a match-high 16 digs.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday, September 26, when they
travel to Glassboro, N.J., to take on Rowan University in NJAC
action at 7 p.m. Rutgers-Newark next hosts Albright College and
Farmingdale State University in a tri-match on Saturday, September
30.
