Cougars Clip Scarlet Raptors in NJAC Volleyball Action, 3-0

UNION, N.J. (10/10/06) - Kean University freshman setter Colleen Masterson (Rahway, N.J.) returned to the Cougar lineup and tallied a match-high 27 assists as the Kean defeated Rutgers-Camden in straight games (32-30, 30-15, 30-21) in New Jersey Athletic Conference volleyball action on Tuesday evening. The victory improved the Cougars to 11-11 overall, 3-3 in the conference, while the Scarlet Raptors dropped to 5-10 overall, 1-4 in the NJAC.

The Cougars had lost seven straight with Masterson on the sidelines with an injury, as the rookie also added four kills, four service aces and five digs in her first action since September 26th.

In the win, senior outside hitter Elizabeth Bauer (Rahway, N.J.) led the team with 12 kills and 10 digs, while junior Alicja Ciastoch (Teaneck, N.J.) added seven kills, eight digs and three service aces. Junior Corinne O'Toole (Garfield, N.J.) had a strong match, as she contributed six kills, five service aces, four digs and two solo blocks.

For the Scarlet Raptors, freshman middle hitters Natalie Powell (Williamstown, N.J.) and Marci Polite (Cherry Hill, N.J.) each had five kills, while Powell had a team-high nine digs and Polite added eight digs and three solo blocks. Sophomore setter Nikki Cosico (Sewell, N.J.) had eight assists and seven digs for Rutgers-Camden.

The Cougars return to action on Thursday, October 12, when they travel to Jersey City, N.J., to take on defending NJAC champion New Jersey City University in action at 7 p.m.
