Cougars Cruise Past Brooklyn in Kean Volleyball

UNION, N.J. - (10/20/06) Kean
University‘s Alicija Ciastoch (Teaneck,
N.J.) tallied 15 kills, 16 digs and five service aces to
lead the Cougars to a 3-1 (30-22, 30-22, 23-30, 30-26) victory over
Brooklyn College women's volleyball action on Friday evening in the
first day of the Cougar Invitational. With the win, Kean's record
improved to 13-12, while the Bridges fall to 9-9.
Also starring in the win for Kean was senior outside hitter
Liz Bauer (Rahway, N.J.) who also had a
double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs junior middle
Corrine O'Toole (Garfield, N.J.) had 10 kills and
13 digs. Freshman Caitlin Gibbons (Ringwood, N.J.)
had 24 assists and classmate Colleen Masterson (Rahway,
N.J.) added 17 assists in two games played.
For Brooklyn, Kerry-Ann Burton had seven kills and
14 digs, while Leidy Guzman had a match-high 18 digs and five
kills.
In the other matches on the first day, Mt. St. Vincent College
topped USMMA-King's Point 3-1. Kings Point bounced back to defeat
Brooklyn College 3-0 in the nightcap, while Hunter College defeated
Mt. St. Vincent 3-0.
The Cougars return to action tomorrow Saturday, October 21 when
they continue in the tournament with matches against Hunter
College, USMMA-King's Point and Mt. St. Vincent College.
