Kean Volleyball Victorious on Day One of Cougar Classic

UNION, N.J. (10/19/07) - The Kean University volleyball team hosted the six-team Cougar Classic on Friday, as the Cougars opened the weekend with straight-game victories over Purchase College and Brooklyn College.

In the win over Purchase (30-25, 30-24, 30-22), senior Alicja Ciastoch (Teaneck, N.J.) had 20 kills and just six errors in 32 attack attempts and added eight service aces to lead the way.  Senior Corinne O'Toole (Garfield, N.J.) added 19 assists and four service aces, while freshman Melissa Spinner (Chatham, N.J.) had 12 assists, three service aces and three kills.

Against Brooklyn (30-28, 30-24, 30-15), Ciastoch recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs, while adding seven service aces.  Rookie Kate Niemiera (Vernon, N.J.) finished with nine kills, six digs and six assists, and O'Tooke dished out a match-high 16 assists to go along with four service aces. 

In other matches on Friday afternoon, USMMA-Kings Points defeated College of Mount Saint Vincent (30-26, 30-23, 30-28), Polytechnic University defeated Mount Saint Vincent (30-26, 19-30, 30-21, 29-31, 15-12), Polytechnic University defeated Kings Point (31-29, 28-30, 30-25, 30-22) and Brooklyn defeated Purchase (30-18, 30-24, 31-29).
