Hansen Breaks Blocks Records In Cougar Classic Action

Union, N.J. (10/19/12) – Junior Kaitlyn Hansen broke two program blocking records as the Kean University women's volleyball team split in day one action at the Cougar Classic.

Kean (22-7) topped Bates College, 3-1, in the opener and fell in five sets to Baptist Bible College in the nightcap.

Hansen collected a total of six blocks on the day giving her 114 for the season, breaking the mark of 108 held by former Cougar Tara Richey during the 2010 season.  In addition, Hansen now boasts a career mark of 229, moving past Loretta Zahn, who has 224.

In the first matchup of the day, the Cougars were led by sophomore Aysia Peterson who tallied a game-high 14 kills along with five service aces.  Hansen registered 12 kills and four digs in the win. 

In the final matchup of the day, Baptist Bible (18-8) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to top Kean in five sets.  Hansen led the Cougars with 15 kills as well as four aces while sophomore Jen Espinal added a double-double 14 kills and 16 digs.

Kean returns to action on Saturday for day two of the Cougar Classic.
