Women's Volleyball Splits In Day Two of Cougar Classic

Union, N.J. (10/20/12) – The Kean University women’s volleyball team split in the final day of action of the Cougar Classic on Saturday.

Kean now stands with a 23-8 overall mark as they enter their final week of the regular season.

In morning action the Cougars battled to five sets before falling to Hamilton College (26-24, 25-27, 20-25, 26-24, 10-15).  Junior Kaitlyn Hansen recorded a match-high 19 kills (.308 attack percentage) in addition to five aces.  Sophomore Alix Denison added nine kills with three aces and three digs while setters Alana Aranjo and Kehaulani Vegas combined for 43 assists.

Kean rebounded in their final match of the day as they topped the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, 3-1 (25-11, 21-25, 25-16, 25-9).  Hansen again provided match-high kills, this time with 13 and a .579 attack percentage.  Hansen also contributed with five digs and three blocks.  Sophomore Aysia Peterson registered 10 kills with four aces and three blocks while sophomore Jen Espinal finished with eight kills and seven digs.

For her efforts, Hansen (pictured left) was named to the All-Tournament team.

Kean competes in their final regular season home match on Tuesday when they host City College of New York on Senior Night.
