Women’s Volleyball Splits on Day One of VPI

POTSDAM, N.Y. (9/9/16) – The Kean women's volleyball team  swept SUNY Canton in the last game of the first day of the Victory Promotions Invitational on Friday. The Cougars dropped a tough 3-2 decision to SUNY Potsdam earlier in the day.

Kean won two tight sets to start its matchup with Canton, and then won going away 25-11 in the final set to nail down the clean sweep of the Kangaroos. Sara Ridgway hit .857 in the match and Joelle Tondi (pictured left) posted a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs in three sets.

Brett Harper led the team with 16 digs and Vikki Stec launched a team-best three aces.

Kendall Sonico also had double-digit digs and had a match-high 25 assists.

Earlier in the day, the Cougars lost their first match of 2016 in a nail-biter and finished on the wrong end of a 19-17 final.  Both teams came into the match unbeaten with a combined 9-0 mark. Kean had more kills, more aces, more digs, more blocks and even earned more aggregate points in the match, but the best-of-five format was not their friend Friday night.

The Victory Promotions Invitational continues on Saturday in Potsdam with the Cougars (6-1) taking on Buffalo State College and Saint Lawrence University beginning at 2 p.m.
